An Interview with Bestselling Author Anna Hackett
Today, we’re honoured to have bestselling author Anna Hackett join us at e-Books India. Continue reading to learn about Anna, her background, her approach to writing, and about her books, including her latest release entitled Niko.
Please tell us about you. Where are you from? What is your professional background and how did you become an author?
I’m Anna and I’m a USA Today bestselling author who writes action-packed romance. I love stories that combine the thrill of falling in love with the excitement of action, danger, and adventure.
I’m from Australia and before I started writing full-time I was a mining engineer. I travelled the world working at lots of different mines. I never grew up wanting to be an author, but I was (and still am) a voracious reader. One day, on a work trip, I ran out of books to read and decided to try writing my own!
What types of books do you write?
I write action-adventure romance. Combining action and romance is my passion. My series include modern-day treasure hunting adventures, humans fighting back against alien invaders, even treasure hunters in space. My books usually fall into the romantic suspense and science fiction romance genres. I love to write about people overcoming unbeatable odds and achieving seemingly impossible goals. I like to believe it’s possible for all of us to do the same.
Could you please tell us about your most recent book, its overall plot, and the main characters in it?
My most recent release is in my bestselling series, Hell Squad, and it’s called Niko. This series is about tough, alpha soldiers battling invading aliens. Hell Squad is science fiction romance with a dose of post-apocalyptic grit and a serve of military romance. There is lots of action, adventure, and romance. But even in the middle of a fight for survival, the series is focused on hope, friends, family and love.
Niko stars Nikolai Ivanov, the leader of a secret enclave of human survivors, and Mackenna Carides, a tough female soldier who’s out there fighting the aliens. There’s a dangerous mission and in the middle of it all, these two have to expose their darkest secrets to win the day.
Are you working on any other books(s)? If so, can you please tell us what we can expect to see from you in the future?
I’m always working on something! I have a new book out next week, Unexplored, in my romantic suspense series, Treasure Hunter Security. This series focuses on some modern-day treasure hunters and their wild adventures.
I’m also just about to finish another Hell Squad book called Finn before diving into a brand new science fiction romance series that I have coming out later in the year called Eon Warriors. I can’t share too much about that yet, but there will be action, adventure, and romance and I am super excited to get started on it.
Can you please tell us about your approach to writing? For example, do you follow structures and writing rules? Or do you write in a free flow way? Do you have any particular time of the day you like to write? Or any specific environment you prefer to sit down and write in?
I have two young sons, so my writing schedule revolves around them. I try to get my writing done as early as possible in the day, often before my sons are awake and once they are at school and daycare. I’ve trained myself to write anywhere: my office, the couch, a café!
I do follow structure and writing rules! That’s not to say I don’t occasionally break the rules, but you need to know them before you can break them. I do brief outlines of my stories (using a four act structure used in script-writing for films) and I like to outline by hand in a notebook. After that, I do a fast draft, then I edit that to something good enough to send to my editor.
Do you have any favourite authors? If so, who are they and what do you like about their work?
I have lots of favourite authors. I love Linnea Sinclair, Nalini Singh, Pamela Clare, Patricia Briggs and Meljean Brook. All these authors pen action-packed romances that I love to read.
What other things do you like to get up to when you’re not writing?
When I’m not writing, I’m usually chasing after my boys! They take up most of my time. I also love to read, watch action movies, and sometimes play games on my Xbox with my husband.
